Do NOT try this with propane.
The velocities involved are much different, rendering a SIGNIFICANT increase in risk of death.
The stuff in the video is just a toy. Danger, sure, but minor risk- unless you count falling objects.

We had an old mechanic in the boat yard I used to work in, do that with a the gas tank from a customer's cabin cruiser.
He had the tank out of the boat sitting on two saw horses and was about to solder up a rust pin hole in the tank. He tinned a penny to use as a patch - a very common repair method back then. Then he held the penny to the tank and touched the torch flame to the penny. He said the next thing he knew he heard a big whoosh. When he opened his eyes the tank was gone and the flame was out on the torch.
He shut the torch off and went home. His boss came around asking if any of us had seen Herby. No one could find him so the boss called his home and found out what happened. Then he asked where's the tank. Herby said I don't know and I quit.
After a few minutes we found the tank about 50 yards into the neighbor's back yard. The saw horses had acted like a launching ramp when the end of the tank blew open. The end of the tank was pealed open like a banana, but luckily for Herby no pieces blown loose as shrapnel.
Seems Herby had forgotten to fill the tank with water first to prevent gas fumes exploding.

I personally hope that nobody looking at the video and is foolish enough to try this nonsense. You are too important to your family to fool with this type of amateur stunt. Mind Yourself. Mike

I hear detonating one of these new automotive air bags, will give the same effect, if you put a trash can on top of it. hope I don't find out the hard way. Need to replace the blinker assembly (again) in my 96 G/P this weekend.

This is a common topic of discussion on auto upholstery talk forums when recovering seats. There's safe ways of temporally deactivating them. Since they didn't have them in the 1920-30's I don't get into that. But from what little I've read, if you don't it can be very dangerous.joeq wrote:I hear detonating one of these new automotive air bags, will give the same effect, if you put a trash can on top of it. hope I don't find out the hard way.
