For anybody interested in looking into mutual funds, here is an easy to use calculator that will let you look at three funds side by side as to costs and returns.

That particular screen shot is three I have invested in. What a difference after 10 years huh?

Gotta love VIIIX. That 0.02% ER is awesome.

The contra fund is a good choice too, but I ditched it in favor of VIIIX. They have many of the same holdings these days (there's debate about whether the fund is still in line with it's original intent) and I wanted more diversification.

As it stands, my portfolio is:
401(k)
VIIIX - Vanguard Institutional Index
PTTRX - Pimco total returns bond
TXT - Textron stock

VTSAX - Vanguard Total International Admiral shares
VGSIX - Vanguard REIT
VBMFX - Vanguard Total Bond index

I'm 85% equity, 15% bond because I'm 35 years away from retirement. The REIT is only 10% of my portfolio, and I'm dollar-cost averaging my way out of TXT (company stock).

It's quite scary that the vast majority of families have very little saved for retirement. This country has some major challenges ahead if something isn't done about it.
