One that I milled out my own lumber for, built largely alone and have not yet got all complete. we have a 20x30 garage /shop and 12 acres. My taxes are 200$ a month more than my mortgage...... You guys worry about the Feederal govt???? Its the locals that are taking all yer money and your property rights and when the revolution starts , my killin starts right here in good ole central NY. :mad: :rambo3:

It is pretty much guaranteed that your taxes will surpass a fixed rate mortgage payment at some point. It never occurs to the school or local board to try and control costs, instead they just accept that every year things will cost more and they pass it on.

In my area the taxes are about $25 per $1000 of assessed value. Mine are $6000 per year.

Hello Waldo,

My father had the same issues with rural property that is not
actively farmed and his taxes for the home and 16 acres in the
Town of Ithaca were close to insane.

My house and less than an acre lot are assessed more than 100K :^(

It may be worth pursuing clearing it, selling the stumpage and then
renting the land for crop land and that would reduce your taxes.
================================================================
On the boiler front-things are going well with one minute on the timer
every ten minutes and 7 turns out on screw adjuster for the pusher plate stroke.

I have been burning a 40 pound bag of Kimmels rice coal a day.
I think we have found our sweet spot for boiler operation now and the house
is not too warm and the thermostat is satisfied.

SO far so good here on my mountain at 1,140 feet above Mean Sea Level.

Yep same thing here. It's the retirement bills that are keeping everything so high. State managed retirement fund and they don't have enough saved for the account. So they have had major raises to beef the fund back up. Neighbors to us retired from working at the local state prison. (Same pension fund) Both retired after working I think 30 years. They both started working there out of high school. Now we taxpayers pay for them to sit home trying to figure out what to do........

Same with school teachers. Figure they start working at about 22-23 years old. Put in 30 years and retire at 55. They get 90 % of their salary for how many more years until they croak. And we wonder why real estate taxes are so high !!!!
