Up home in the coal regions tomorrow theWoman took a basket to church to be blest by the priest .Our tow n Coaldale was a melting pot of Irish Slovaks polish Russians Lituanians .all who worked for the old Company or L C N .Back to the basket .It contained home made bread butter Horseradish kielbasa and a cheese item called Hrutka .We kids could not touch anything til sonday .Looking back everyone helped each other since most familys the dad was a miner and times were tough or meager .If a woman lost her husband at the mines an had no immediate relatives it was not unusual for the kids to be taken into the neighbors home indefinetaly .I recently came up with this info .Coaldale had a population of around 3500 people in the 1950s .The mines were still working good due to the Korean War .The town hade 6 churches .Also our church I am told the members dug the foundation with pick an shovel an wheelbarrels back around 1920 . The church is approx. 210 by 80 .Can you imagine that .Lastly we had 38 bars for thje town .All did well .The miner on the way home needed a shot an beer to wash the dust down .Again Happy Easter .jack

Amazing how far we've gone in less than 100 years. From back-breaking labor and ethics second-to-none, to what we have across America's cities today (I won't bring the post down with the details - we all know what's going on). Sad.

Great story nonetheless. Hopefully some of America's youth read it, and try to emulate the people of the time.

HAPPY EASTER!

Easter excursions are over. Now I wish I was a wood burner, cause I need to burn some calories. But with the 111 huming along, there's nothing to do, but dump in a couple shovels of elephant dung. :|
