Hi, I am putting an addition on my house here directly. I am going to put up a new masonry chimney. I am having the basement walls poured by a contractor. I will be insulating the interior basement walls with either DOW Thermax or Hunter XCI 286. Both of these insulations meet fire code without being covered. My question is related to my wall thimble and this insulation. Any idea what the best way to attack this scenario is? My thoughts are using a 12" metal insulated wall pass through. Then running an 8" clay liner inside it into the flue. I think that would satisfy code as far as clearances etc, but I'm not sure if that is the best route. Any thoughts?

You are right. Thanks. I just talked to the code guy. He told me to just cut a 2" gap around the thimble. Or whatever dimensions the manufacturer requires.
