The more I think about it....I don't believe you.

There are plenty of people here who really do have seriously closed minds, but those people's minds are SO closed that they don't even realize it! It's like being an alcoholic....The first step is to realize you have a problem..& most of them think they are fine.....It's the rest of US that are the problem! :no1:

This story should settle the question of this thread:

Once there were two science teachers, one a believer, the other an atheist. Both had debated the question of the origin of the universe but neither convinced the other. One day the the believer teacher was involved in making models for his lessons. The believer teacher had constructed a huge and elaborate working model of the solar system. The atheist teacher saw this and was quite impressed with its detail and accuracy. He said to the believer, "Did you make this?" "No", replied the believer. "Well who did?", queried the atheist. "No one", said the believer. "That's impossible", cried the atheist. "Now you understand!", exclaimed the believer.

The origin of all that exists is a mystery but so were solar eclipses & lightening in ancient days. Just bvecause we are incapable of explaining something at our present level of advancement does not mean that we need to ascribe a "Devine" involvement to it. There are other possibilites.

U.S. constitution Amendment I, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Now that we have that part settled, I would much rather go thru life believing that Jesus is the son of GOD and that GOD is the creator, only to die and find out that GOD was just a fairytale than not believing in GOD only to die and then find out that he is real.

it is going to be interesting to see (or not see) what is up (or not up) after death. personally i dont think it is going to make much difference one way or the other - just something different...

There is no such thing as an atheist. There are only different definitions of God.

I'm not going to wade back through this whole thread but I think I gave my views on this subject before: I have less trouble believing that there may have been a super-intelligent (compared to us) CREATOR of the universe than I do believing in a being/spirit watching over us on a daily basis.

Even if there was a CREATOR,..that in no way rules out:

1. Maybe there are many universes & many creators of each one
2. This/These Supreme Being (again, compared to us) is not necessarily benevolent.( A good argument could be made for just the opposite, in fact)
3. Why do believers insist that this creator stuck around after he finished his creating. Why should we believe he/she/it didn't have other, more important things to do than babysit our universe?

Just a few questions off the top of my head.

Another thought that comes to mind is this question:

I think even devout believers will admit that God's presence has not been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, so why do SOME (if not many) devout believers have such little patience with, & even look down their noses at atheists & even Agnostic who admit to just not being sure?? (we pay them (believers) much more deference than they pay us...Why?

Where is the smiley with hands covering ears saying, "Nyaaaaa naaaaaa ... I can't hear you!"

Non-believers are not afraid to go into discussions with their ears and eyes open.

They all have that one thing in common. When you die you go somewhere. Some people can't handle when you die , they bury you and you just rot away. So man made religion. From the Greeks , too today. Also if you read the Bible , people who think they are going to heaven are not. Very few will get there.
