Did God Create Man Or Did Man Create God?

Did God Create Man Or Did Man Create God?

PostBy: Devil505 On: Mon Apr 14, 2008 12:39 pm

Figured we need a nice light little subject that we could all agree on, so here it is. :D

I have no idea if the universe was created by an entity that we would call God, or it was just formed somehow on it's own. That being said, my view of all the world's various formal religeons is this: (parts reprinted from a diferent thread)

My view of all formal religeon is that they are "bed-time storys", made up by early man, who was scared of the dark, storms & ulitmatley death & wanted to allay his fears with "Happy Ending" stories.....Period. As we gain knowledge of our universe, we can now explain many things that we just feared b4 & therefore dont need the religeous "stories" to allay our fears as much. However, as long as we ultimately cannot understand death, we will drag our "cuddley baby blanket" of religeon around with us to ease our minds.
Over my desk I have a picture of the earth taken by the Apollo 8 astranauts from the moon....,. We all share a tiny, fragile little blue marble floating in the vastness of space, & yet we have spent thosands of years fearing eachother & killing eachother, based on one of these "Bed-Time" stories. I think it is the height of arrogance to believe that, if there exists a supreme being, that he/she/it would have nothing better to do than to watch over & control this little blue, insignificant spec called Earth.
Personaly, I view death as being exactly what it was like before I was born..........Nothing (no sense of time, no Heaven or Hell....just nothing)

All opinion/beliefs are welcome

Edit: If you haven't really looked & wondered at the picture below, I suggest you take a minute, enlarge it & really look at it for a few moments. I think all world leaders should be required to have that photo hanging in their office to contemplate b4 making any major decision. Everything in our history, everyone that has ever lived, everyone you love, hate, fear or remember was or is on that fragile little blue spec. That's my religeon!

Lighten the mood? From politics to religion. Bwaaahaaaa. This is gonna get interesting.

Man invented god to explain things they didn't understand. Then some true thieves decided to create organized religion so they could make a buck off of people's fear of the unknown by selling them eternal salvation.

Being totaly honest here spc......I have no idea if there was an original "Creator" or things just evolved naturaly through physics *& chemistry. I will admitt that everything in our daily lives, seems to have a begining & an end, & for the universe to just suddenly "appear" from nothing doesn't make sense to me.

BUT

If there was a "Creator"......perhaps he was a 7th grader in a far larger unviverse than we can imagine, & he created "our" universe as his science fair project on a tuesday night after dinner. :D

What I do know is that I don't buy into any of the formal religeons that exist & believe they have done more damage to our species than all the plagues & war combined! (this may well be my last post as I hear thunder rumbling in the distance!.........I hope Harman has toys wherever I may end up!)

Having stated my beliefs, I will now point out a true experience that makes me question my thinking:

I mentioned on another thread that in Dec/1989 I went through the windshield of a motor vehicle & was in a coma for a period of time. I remember nothing of the events leading up to that moment, or for months after.
What I do remember, & the reason why I include it here, is a vague feeling of DISTANCE.
When I slowly came out of the coma, I remember feeling that I had traveled a great distance (not time, but distance) since the impact. I have no explanation for that feeling other than it may have been caused by an injury to a portion of my brain that involves dreaming/imagining. On the other hand.................Maybe I had traveled a great ditance to come back!
( I should have saved this (true) story for sitting around the campfire, late at night, on the Meet & Greet in May!) :jawdrop:
I guess I'm just Agnostic at heart.

Have you contacted Lewis Black? 8-)

Lewis Black the comedian??

You're making me nervous, I'm not used to having people agree with me. That's why I stay out of political discussions. I'm usually arguing with both Republicans and Democrats. :D

Yes, Lewis Black, the "angry" comic on Jon Stewart's show, who now has his own show called "Root of all Evil" on HBO, where he "presides" over fictitious "cases" between pet pieves, to determine which is the root of all evil. Last week's was between Paris Hilton and Dick Cheney. The, um, "winner" was our Dick in Chief.

I am a Believer. To say all religion is bogus and that God does not exist is to say that millions and even billions of people over the centurys are just flat wrong. It is to say that the worlds most brilliant theologians are in fact, incorrect.

Are you really just dead when you die? Nothing more, nothing less? Lets ask Devil5052. There are WAY WAY too many experiences like his . Normal, everyday people experiencing phenominal inner peace while hanging onto life by a thread. I guess all the while, they are ALL lying and nothing really happened and they didn't experience the afterlife...

I for one would not want to be in the "Opps I was wrong" line when Judgement day comes..

It is to say that the worlds most brilliant theologians are in fact, incorrect. I have no problem believing that billions of people & "brilliant theologians" may have been wrong. When it comes to a subject like "Death" it is not majority rule or "expert" testimony that sways my opinion. There are no "experts" in this field who's views have any more weight than mine.

Are you really just dead when you die? Nothing more, nothing less? Lets ask Devil5052. ...My answer is I really don't know, nor does anyone else know. (I may think about it & have opinions,...but know...of course not.
There are WAY WAY too many experiences like his . Normal, everyday people experiencing phenominal inner peace while hanging onto life by a thread. I guess all the while, they are ALL lying and nothing really happened and they didn't experience the afterlife... No-one is claiming they are lying & I even had an experience that is open to different interpretations. You may choose to assign a religeous, other-worldy meaning to it, ....or......another may believe it is nothing more than the random firing of neurons within the brain that, like a dream, has no significance or "religeous" meaning at all. My interpretaion>.....I tend to be a "Show me I'm from Missouri " kinda guy, & feel it more likely that it was a chemical event within my brain.
Am I 100% positive of either opinion? NO

I for one would not want to be in the "Opps I was wrong" line when Judgement day comes..

I for one am not going to be scared into any belief.
