Let me transfer some more pics. and tomorrow the real cool stuff happens :) Scott

The model numbers on this stove are GJ-63-su. I found an old brochure for these boilers but it only goes up to a GJ-53 and it doesn't list BTU's but it does say the 53 needs a 8x12 chimney. All the others needed a 8x8 or a 8x10. I'm putting out an APB for information leading to the identity of this boiler. :)

So there was this intake manifold part that was severely gone. My buddy the high school shop teacher did a super job of fabricating a new one out of stainless. Heavy duty! Much heavier than was needed, but it won't go again!

Painted and assembled the stoker assembley. I decided that coal burnin is indeed green. As a matter of fact, It's '69 corvette green. Or as you smartey guys know, JD green. Had some left over and just plain like the color.

And believe me , this baby is almost 4' long and weighs a couple hundred pounds. I hooked up the power to the stoker and the beauty is whisper quiet!

So that's it for the mechanicals. So Wood n' coal,,,,, Is there enough pictures so far or is this rebuild a little tame :D

Now for the sheet metal. This is gonna be harder to fix. Just ask Matt, some of the panels need lots of work. ;)
All for now, work calls. :) Scott

Hey Scott, lookin good! :D Especially like the JD green on the gear box and fan housing. BTW I learned last week that there is an air hole on the coal bin side of the pot that allows the gases to vent, make sure that is open and facing up. As Mike says, you will be very happy with how this boiler operates, one of the easier and more robust units per the guy in Peckville that has the parts (General Machine, 412 Keystone Ave, Peckville PA. 570-383-0990, talk with Dan if you need any information).

Have fun and keep the photos coming.

Thanks for the info Mattaus. It's not quite the complicated rebuild as the two your tackling but pretty sweet for a first timer. You liked the green :D I'm hoping the GJ crowd isn't easily offended. Scott

How is the coal feed and air adjusted? I see what appears to be an adjustment plate on the blower, but don't see any way to vary the coal screw speed, except by exchanging out the pulleys for different sizes.

Coal feed is adjusted by changing spacers in the pulleys that drive the gear box to change the size. This is however rarely done as the feed rate is not really a big issue based on the retort and auger design (the helicoid ends at the opening into the base of the pot and there is a small section feeding the opposite way on the other side of the opening).

Air is adjusted by way of the end plate that you noticed, it fits over the inlet of the combustion fan so essentially the inlet size is varied to affect cfm. The fans are direct drive off the motor that drives the auger gear box.

The GJ is a simple and robust machine, not at all hard to operate without a manual. Just ask Mike, he is having great success running his. :)

The coal feed rate is changed by loosening an allen keyed set screw on either pulley. The pulleys are in two halves and screw apart to increase the space between the sides. Sort of like the old snowmobile clutches. The info I have says that every half turn equals 1 lb per hour. There are many turns available. Wish someone had some good brochures or other info as the ones I have are pretty limited. Bill, this is a unit that was aquired from the salvage master. Mattaus :D Jay, I've been told I know too much for knowing too little considering I didn't know anything at all not that long ago. I have some GJ documents that I'm going to try to scan onto the site. :) Scott
