Guys,

Thanx for the replies. As usual , I left out some key info  Im looking for the old style kinda oblong type. The new ones are cylinder shaped and mostly stainless. Im looking for an old aluminum style , I tried the really old wooden style and it looked good but it went up in smoke on the first cookout ....

You could probably go to a bar or beer distributor and get a 1/4 or 1/2 keg for the deposit, but I don't know if any breweries still use the old style with the bung on the side. Your old style oak keg grill sounds like the wood stove I bought, built from solid oak planks and guaranteed to burn.

I have a crab cooker built from a keg, the thing will cook an entire bushel at a time. If you build the grill post some pics please. A couple years ago my pasture raised thanksgiving turkeys got out of hand. The tom we roasted dressed out at 41 lbs, the smallest hen was 31 lbs. The neck alone was as large as a roast. I thought I was going to have to build a custom cooker from a keg, but after modifying the racks I got it in the oven with a half inch to spare.

It seems that no one uses the old style anymore. I got a beer salesman buddy thats been looking for a month and cant find one.

Paulie, I saw the one in Syracuse but Im holding out for a half keg (15.5 gal size) . just in case I run into one of those 40 lb turkeys

I had one cornered on ebay but got sniped at the end of the auction

TT, we had the same problem with a huge tom turkey & a smoker years back, we just modified the turkey!
Waldo, you might try some scrap yards, some may have held onto a few, back in the day we & others used them for gas tanks for drag cars so there may be some stashed away somewhere.

Waldo,

This is what I got. But it is the small Pony or 1/4 barrel as we used to call them.
