You might consult transition.fcc.gov. At this site you can get the signal strength of available broadcasters. In my area the signals are listed as weak and poor and that is with an assumed 30 foot tower so it makes no sense for me to even try.

Kind of funny a free antenna ad at the bottom of the page.

Rob and I have PMed on this before. It is a source of amazement to me that he can get a good selection of TV channels in a location where even the glaciers get lonely. As for me in the middle of civilization, (if you can call living next to a bunch of liberals civilized) I can received very little. Luck of the draw I guess.

No luck on the roof but the neighbor was getting good laugh, even had Dad laughing when I told him what I was going to do. Not sure if I should pull the trigger on a better antenna or not, even if I had partial signal cutting in and out but I'm not seeing anything. Maybe I'll climb a tree tomorrow with TV in tow.

They put transmitters long distances from towns often for various reasons, so it does pay to live in the country. Some are in towns of course, but they look for high spots, and cheap land to build on, away from airports and close houses.coalnewbie wrote:Rob and I have PMed on this before. Those small interior antennas work good with a "hot signal"...not so much with a weak signal, or a VHF frequency.
Try giving these folks a call and see which antenna they recommend: http://dennysantennaservice.com/ They will allow you to return it if it doesn't work.
http://www.solidsignal.com also has a nice selection and will recommend an antenna.

I went here a couple years back and then went out bought the recommended "color" HD Broadcast antenna. It works great.
