The grill cleaning brush I had worked great. There was a little rust color on the hooks that hold a flat plate of steel. Anything I should spray on them? Like WD40 or something else?

Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood

Nice brush! That one is really good for those large flat surfaces.

I don't spray anything on mine. Clean it out good, remove the stovepipe, cap the flue outlet and put a light bulb inside it to keep it dry.

I still have mine running off the timing for DHW.

If it is still running you don't need to do anything else.

That is not what I meant.

If the boiler is operating, corrosion over the summer will not be a problem. The cleaning alone is sufficient for trouble free operation.

x2. This is one reason why some people elect to run units year-round for DHW.
