S130 - Pea Coal Vs Rice Coal?

Another potential issue is carbon monoxide. The S130 needs to breathe when idle (which is most of the time) so CO properly goes up the chimney and out. Rice coal may greatly hinder this breathing.

The main issue with rice is poor airflow through the burn pot during the active firing cycle. Occasionally, folks buy rice by mistake or have preexisting coal inventory to use up. You can mix rice with pea coal to use it. Don't go below a 2:1 ratio of pea to rice. More pea is better. If using buckwheat, stay at 4:1 or higher.
