Stoker Coal Boiler: EFM

Post by arkenstat » Tue. Aug. 02, 2016 3:54 pm

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a property in NEPA and I have 2 stokers I'm having trouble identifying. Someone who seemed to have an idea told me I had an "EFM 300 & EFM 500." Is that correct? I am looking to switch to propane and sell these furnaces so any info you can provide would be very helpful! Thanks a lot!

If you take them out, sell them or find them a good home.
Don't scrap them !

Yes, from what I heard they are in pretty good condition. I will definitely not be scrapping them. They have already been 'taken out' as far as 'out of commision.' But they are still in the basement.

They are either EFM 350's or EFM 520's or one of each. They look like they were well cared for.

Why on earth would you take them out for a propane burner. When the price goes back up to 3 or 4 dollars a gallon again, you will go broke.

Thanks Don. Glad to hear they are in good shape.
We changed them out for a few reasons. Firstly, no one around to maintain/stoke it as it's for a rental complex. Also, by changing out we can put separate burners for each unit so we were no longer paying for the whole complex (talk about going broke!).

Any idea how much they are worth if I wanted to put them up for sale on Craigslist? I've seen a range from $1,600 to $5,000 currently on craigslist. I'm not looking to make a killing here just trying to get some decent money to put towards the replacement cost.

If you put them on CL for $1000 each, they will probably sell. Not very quick though, It is the middle of Summer. They are also in a basement, that scares some people off.

judging from the knockouts on the front cover my guess would be early 520 units which would mean prior to 1968 or 1969 as far as what year they were manufactured, this time frame also means they are possibly tube boilers which are less desired compared to the plate boilers. I don't know where you are located but by all means do not scrap them I would be interested in them just for parts SCRAPPER
