Yes, 4 of them are going in to our addition before this fall. The rest of them will be put on a pallet and stored for when I have time to rip out fin tube.

I started right away!

First I took all of the bushings, and old unions out, Then I pressure washed, wire brushed, then hit them with rustoleum "rusty metal primer" through my airless paint sprayer. So far so good.
That was quick! Now all you need to do is figure out what color to paint them and start plumbing.

They looked like they were in good shape to begin with. Were they in a hot water system, or steam???

I got lucky, they were hot water, and not heavily painted by the prior owners. They're a lot smaller than I usually see around here. At 22" high, 5 tube, 26 section, I'm calculating about 11000 BTU at 180*.

I am trying to figure out how many to put in the new family room and master bedroom. They are seperate zones, planning on a 3/4" loop for each room and mono flow tees on the return side, 1/2 inch risers.

The bedroom is 350 sqft w cathedral ceiling, a sliding door, and a window.

The family room is 400sqft w cathedral ceiling, 2 Windows and 2 sliding doors!

Bedroom, and Living room.

My plan so far is to put a 4 footer under each window. Think it's enough?

All I can say is, we know how to calculate how many BTUs these radiators should put out. We also know how to roughly figure out how many BTUs we need in a room. When I went through this earlier this year, I figured I needed about 25,000 BTU for my living room.

The radiators I ended up using add up to about 12,800 BTU @180*. I was very surprised to find that these radiators have no problem heating half of my house @160*.

I don't know what went wrong with my calculations but it worked out for the best. Given all that, I would say if you put those nice long ones under all the windows you will probably be nice and toasty this Winter.

What happened to that long, low 7 tube radiator you had???

I love those short 7 tube radiators! One of those would be great to just lay on when you come in from snow removal duty!

So far so good,

I am mixing 70% rustoleum flat black, and 30% acetone. Other than it taking way more paint than I thought, and taking forever to dry, It's going great.

Even using the sprayer, it's tough to get coverage between the ribs!

Do not guess at the radiator requirements. Use a free heat loss program, like Slant Fin's.

I am curious what number you came up with.

Happy to share. I appreciate the link Rob.

This calculator was pretty close to what I came up with the other calculator, The constincancy makes me feel better.

Master Bed: 7,600 BTU
Family Room:13,000 BTU

These were using a -20*F outside air temperature, which I would figure is just about worst case scenario for my area.

That family room looks like a pretty good-sized area. You will enjoy the cast iron radiation in there. Have you calculated the output of your various radiators?

Yep,

I've been using the Columbia Heating write up on calculating their output.

I know that's a big room, with a lot of glass. :| It's 19'x18' 342 sq/ft with a ceiling that starts at 8', vaulted up to 18'

According to the Slant/Fin calculator they are saying just about 37 BTU per sq/ft

It is pretty similar to my family room: 16x24', ceiling 12' to 8', and a sliding glass door with 8 crank out windows. I have 40' of fin tube in there and there are times when it runs 100%.
