Can anybody tell me what we have here? Look like wall hung? I have them lined up to go look at today. I know the pictures stink, they were in the ad.

That is exactly what you have. Wall or ceiling hung radiators. Very common in factory settings where asthetics didn't matter. More commonly used in steam systems.

Do those look like steamers? Any GUESS on BTU with 160* water?

Based on this chart, they could be some big btu, The average EDR seems much higher on wall mounts.

Does anybody still make brackets to hang these monsters?

Well I picked them up. They are from the Pierce Arrow Automobile office in Buffalo, NY. They are ornate with some designs.

One is visually cracked, but the others are ok. So on the pallet was 4 horizontal wall hungs, and 1 vertical wall hung.

I'd like to hang the horizontals on the walls of the living room if they pressure test ok, can anybody help with BTU Rating? They don't line up with the columbia chart.

Here are the dimensions"

Horizontal :
12" tall by 60" wide, 3" thick 26 sections, wall hung

upright/vertical
53"tall x 12" wide 3 " thick 36 sections, wall hung

Here are some more pictures. Not sure why they look rusty on the computer, but they're mostly dusty.

I found lots of info on these rads, See the attachment. Unfortunately I don't think they're large enough for me. According to the attachment the

Horizontals are version 9-A, 2 section each. 9 sq/ft of radiation per section. mine are 2 section, 18 sq/ft x 170= 3060 btu.

Vertical look like type 7A, 7sq ft, 4 sections= 28 sq/ft x170=4760btu

Nice! Thanks for posting the manual, another great source of radiator info. I have been looking for some wall hung units. Not enough BTU for a living room but, plenty for a bathroom with limited floor space!

Yeah, I couldn't believe I found that info for the exact radiators that I have. Anyway unfortunately I don't think I will use them. But I am going to get them cleaned up, hopefully somebody else can.

Aparantly ARCO= American Radiator Comany, and they were manufacturing in just about every city back then. :)

That document is fairly long and has a ton of info in it. It even has a list of all the different offices and manufacturing plants. Apparently ARCO radiators were made in several places in every geographic area of the country.

Wow!, that is quite a load! I bet your Z-71 was riding a little low with all that cast iron in the back.

They look like they are five tube, 26" tall. That is an EDR of 3.5. Works out to 595 BTU per section at 180 degrees. They look like nice long ones, probably 20 sections or so a piece. That is at least 11,900 BTU each and you have 9! Your house will be toasty this Winter.

If you install enough of them, you can bring your boiler temperature down a bit which will save some coal.

When does the cleaning and refinishing process start???

Luckily it's a 3/4 ton pickup.

I started right away!

First I took all of the bushings, and old unions out, Then I pressure washed, wire brushed, then hit them with rustoleum "rusty metal primer" through my airless paint sprayer. So far so good.
