I am sorry for your loss Greg. Next to losing a child or one's spouse... a canine friend is one of the toughest. Many of us now, remember the pain more intensely as we read your and other posts. Thanks for sharing. Your sharing helps us remember how good life is, and how precious our canine friends are. I've just spend a bit more time with Eli this morning... more than I would have because life seems to get so busy... and we take too much for granted, too often. Again, thanks for sharing - and in doing so, helping us to remember what's important.

Ohhh, Greg, Please accept my condolances on the loss of Hoi. For all the love they give, they don't expect much from us. A little food, some water, a pat on the head & they give their all to please us. Our final responsibility is to say goodbye. Never easy, but we knew when we accepted them into our lives they would need us to say goodbye someday. I'm sorry this day has come for you.

:( So sorry to learn of your loss Greg. I'm glad I at least got to meet him earlier this year. It is amazing how unconditionally dogs love us and become part of the family, my wish is that you find some comfort in this painful time.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I buried mine two years ago, one of the toughest things I've ever done. Went a year without a dog, and couldn't stand it. We adopted a wonderful pup from an animal rescue a little over a year ago, she is great.
Take your time, and our thoughts are with you.

My thanks to everyone who has responded, and shared their similar stories and feelings.. I really appreciate the support.

I buried Hoi today, I was having a hard time getting myself to get the chore done.. I just didn't want to face it..

But my Buddy Hoi is in his final resting place... with a great view, a spot we shared many times together..

Now I need to pull myself together.

Photo below is the view from Hoi's grave.

Thanks again everyone.. Greg L

Greg, sorry to hear of the loss of your pet. It is always hard to let go when they have become part of the family. I have had to put down 4 dogs in my life and it is always hard. The hardest for me was 4 years ago when my beagle (a true friend and hunter for 12 years, Hell I am getting all teary just typing this.) Sorry I need to pause for a bit. ) was very sick and I knew the end was near. On a Sunday afternoon he began howling and writhing in pain. I called all of the local vets and nobody was available to put him down. I listened to him howl in pain for 3 hours then I made my decision to put him down myself. The hardest thing that I ever have had to do in life was pull that trigger. The wife just asked me why I was sitting at the computer crying.

Sorry for the rambling.
Enjoy the good memories of Hoi.

Sorry to hear Greg, keep in mind the good times. Hopefully in time a best buddy will come along and you will not even be planning on it.

Greg, sorry to hear about your loss. We have a Brittany Spaniel(Liberty) who'll be 13 this coming 4th of July. Her hearing is gone & she has cateracts in both eyes, weak bladder, but other than that is doing fairly ok. We know she is living on borrowed time @ this point, & wouldn't hesitate to "put her out of her misery" if need be. Oh, her nose still works like the day she was born though.........

Greg,

You have my condolences as burying a pet is most often as hard to do as that of having to bury ones own child. I hope the coming days will bring you comfort having the memoiries of the good time you both had together.

Jim
