Welcome to NEPA Crossroads

Welcome to NEPA Crossroads

PostBy: Richard S. On: Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:25 am

This is my first step in moving the "Anthracite coal Forum" into my long planned project now called "NEPA Crossroads". The more I think about it's actually quite a good name because most of us are here because of product produced in good 'ol NEPA. For those of you that weren't here when the forum originally took off you may not remember it but the anthracite forum was just single forum that was part of much larger forum. I removed all those forums and made it exclusively for coal because the others received very little attention. Here's a archived version from March of 2005 with a grand total of 6 topics in what was then the forum and Guestbook for my old site coaldelivery.com http://web.archive.org/web/200504220454 ... al.com/bb/

What I'm going to be doing over the summer is moving back towards what I originally intended this forum to be and I'll be adding many of things that I have been promising for a while now. One of the reasons for the hold up was that I wanted to move it to new domain before doing them, this is the best time to do it because of the lull in traffic. The first thing on my hit list is getting the Knoeledge base up and running. I'll be using the same software that Wikipedia uses so if you're familiar with that you'll know what I'm talking about. Anybody will be able to edit or add information to an article. I'm going to allow anything in this knowledge base, if you want to write an article on your Grandpa so be it. :D

All the old URL's should be correctly redirecting here, AFAIK there isn't any major glitches. If you find anything let me know. If you are linking to this site from yours please update your links. The permanent address is simply http://nepacrossroads.com , no need for the www.

Congratulations on the new home!

I've only been a member a couple of weeks but I'd like to say thank you to Richard for his efforts in providing a place for us to get together and share knowledge. I can tell he's generous to a fault and unless he were up to his butt in alligators would never ask $.05 toward paying the swamp drainer. I see few advertisements on the site, so I'd like to remind people that donations can be made, should be made, just to defray actual expenses. $5 - $10 every couple of months from each of us goes a long way toward keeping the electronic foundation under a place like this. Here's the address if you use PayPal:

If needed perhaps Richard will edit this to add other ways to donate.

It's stickied in the feed back forum.

One issue I have come across is that using Google to search may not return very good results at the moment as relatively few pages are indexed. By the looks of it though I'll have most of it reindexed in a few days. I'll have a better indicator in few hours.

Google and the Google Adsesne bot sucked up about 70MB yesterday so it should be reindexed in a few days at the very most if they continue like that. Yahoo did about 10MB which is 1/4 of this months totals.... this was actually one thing I was concerned about that the bots may take a long time to reindex it but looks to not be a problem presently. Now as long as the search rankings carry over I'm in the clear. :smoke:

Great name Richard and a really great job of putting this forum together. I have learned a lot and had a ball doing so. Great place, great friends and boundless source of knowledge. I can't wait to see what you do with the new forum.

Looks like everything went smoothly nearly all the URL's have been reindexed here and most importantly I didn't lose any search engine placement which was my biggest concern.
