I have 2 circulator pumps, that I want to control with a single aquastat. I'm hoping to be able to accomplish this by using the aquastat to control a relay that has both a normally open and a normally closed circuit, so that one pump is turned on when the other is turned off. I'm looking at the specs for the Honeywell R4222F, and it seems to have both normally open and normally closed circuits, but I can't find any info on whether both circuits flip state on energizing the coil (the normally closed circuit opens, and the normally open circuit closes). Does anyone know if it does this, or if there is a different relay that can be used this way?

It appears that the one you referenced is double pole / double throw(dpdt). While it will work a single pole double throw (spdt) is what your after. Too you might consider iust getting a spdt aquastat

I haven't found an aquastat that can do this (close a normally open and open a normally closed at the same time). Do you know of one? Or for that matter, a relay that can do this? The documentation for the R4222 seemed to indicate it could be STDP, but no indication about which circuits switch in that mode. https://customer.honeywell.com/resources/techlit/TechLitDocuments/60-0000s/60-0014.pdf (F/Q configuration)

Try looking at RIB's. Relay in a box, they have many options.

I don't have the time, tools or talent to build my own, I just need to find one that does what I need. Unfortunately, the manufacturer descriptions for most aren't clear on exactly which circuits change when the coil is energized.

Honeywell L6006 aquastats have NO and NC contacts.

I agree also! The downside is it has a small differential.lsayre wrote:I agree! The L6006 series will do what you are asking.Rob R. wrote:Honeywell L6006 aquastats have NO and NC contacts.

As long as you be certain to get the R4222F, R4222B ..."F" or"B" suffix you will have what you are asking for.Earthscape wrote:I have 2 circulator pumps, that I want to control with a single aquastat. "B" uses a single source and the "F" can use either single source w/ jumper or else 2 separate sources.

Thanks all, looks like the L6006/L6007 will fit the bill. Tested one and it works!
