Art Garland Baseburner "Double Heater"
Showing in those pix on page three is that Greg's has the center claw dump grate's shaft going out the right side below the level of the grates. I see a similar shaft in the pics Steve linked to.

But Greg's stove does not have the cog-tooth ring around the base of the pot, above the level of the grate. What function that ring serves is what I'm interested in.

But, this #48 has those AND the cog ring that rotates something and the only thing I can suppose is the fire pot itself and like Paul I can't fathom why.
You need to get that stove, so we know what it does for sure ;) :D
Right ! Buy the stove and put us all out of your misery. :D

I didn't see that cog ring at first. I can't see where anything connects to it on the ebay pictures.

found it !!

http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/1rgAAOSwZ1BXf9Hi/s-l1600.jpg

look at the lower right side door handle, see that shaft it's attached to ? i'll bet the handle slips off and the shaker handle slips on.

the lower half rotates. click on the pic then zoom it, at about 200 you can plainly see a lip and seperation line in the fire pot casting thru the lower right mica in the upper door.

classy

Yep, on the ebay listing, I zoomed on the pic with the front doors open and if you look real close (I used a magnifying glass) part of the cog can be seen on the right side meshing into the big gear.

The double heater option on the #40 was an additional 75 cents. :D

all Garlands being double heaters, that 75 cent option was an additional cast panel to enclose the back of the stove from the tea kettle shelf up to the top of the bonnet to get every last drop of radiated heat into the air stream.

other wise the heated air path stops at the level of and inboard of the tea kettle lift lid on the back shelf.

i think the whole rear oven feature was like $1.75

PS, look where that shaker handle is in that illustration, the grates aren't up there.

PPS, and the air flow pic shows the 2 piece fire pot plainly. :)

That handle on the longer shaft seems to be about inline with the cog ring, and as Don pointed out I can just make out two pinion cog "teeth" meshed with the ring cogs - on the right looking in through the front opening.

But, .... if that shaft is the pinion cog shaft, then where's the latch handle for that lower right side door ?

Unless it's a pinion cog shaft that can rotate inside a tube that operates the door latch ????

I was wondering about the door latch myself. If you look real close at the side pic, the door is actually cut out around the piece holding the shaft. That doesn't explain the missing door latch though.

That's right Kevin ...... Sometimes ya just got to bite the bullet. ..... if the Art Garland is reasonably priced, that would be my #1 choice.

During the course of the split firebowl conversation I found the cutest little chicken brooder stove with triangular grates, at a flea market in Streetsboro,Ohio.

The cool weather, and recent forum activity, brought the fever back and of course it's following me home. :out:

Too rich for my blood. That starting bid is more than I have in all my Glenwoods. I'll just have to settle for living that dream vicariously through others on here. :D
