I do that as well, my wife throws everything in together and I got tired of white clothes that were no longer white.Only thing I sperate is whites and that's because I use bleach on them...
A hint to remove stains: Get a bar of Octagon soap and rub it liberally on the wet fabric, and work it in with a brush and wash as usual. Amazing how it works.
