First One to Fire?

First one to fire?

PostBy: Goody22 On: Sun Oct 23, 2016 3:12 am

Down to the mid 40's tonight. I've been bugging my wife to let me fire the stove, but she won't allow it yet. Says she doesn't want to be burnt out of the house again. Last Christmas it was unusually warm here near Harrisburg. We had family dinner at my house and it was so hot I ended up snuffing the fire out even though the windows were open. I guess I have to agree with her as I don't want that to happen again.

But I must admit, I'm biting at the bit to get my first load and start some coals.........

Anyone fire up yet?

I fired up September 19th. Judicious use of windowstats keeps Momma warm and my life happy. 43 this morning just north of you in Girardville Pa.

You know, you can start your fire and then add coal to only one side of the firebox effectively cutting your stove output in half. Just let the other side ash up so the air only goes through the side with the coal. Don't use your shaker system. Use a thin blade or a thin piece of round stock to clear the ash from the side your firing.

Works great.

We had snow on the ground yesterday for about an hour. I went to tsc and got some generic anthracite as my guy was closed. Omg it was wet in plastic bags. Cant tell what it is but it burns really nice. Better than the Hudson my regular guy has..... :gee:

Fired up my Alaska Kodiak Friday kept a small fire going through yesterday it was in the 60's Friday then finished filling the hopper last night. Snug as a bug in a rug 74 inside and 34 outside. Bare ground but there is a trace of snow on my car. They are calling for rain or snow showers through Tuesday.
