I agree. The savings may still benefit the AA over pellets. Unless a pellet boiler is inherently more efficient, which I doubt.Rob R. wrote:Heating domestic hot water for two homes is actually better - because there is a better chance of the BTU's produced by the idling boiler going into the domestic hot water rather than the atmosphere. If it were me I would probably try running the AA and see how it does, but to each their own.

We will see how things go running the boiler in the summer. Time will tell. I know that it is well worth it to keep a boiler warm. I use to work for a local fuel oil company doing furnace cleanings. You could always tell which boilers ran year round. It was a shame to see a ten year old boiler that looked 40 years old. Thank you for all the input so far I really appreciate it. I am hoping to pick up pipe and fittings by the of the week if all goes as planned and the phone does not ring off the hook for furnace work. But I guess as the saying goes, " the shoe makers' kids always get shoes last."

My Axeman is similar to Mozz, heats my basement very toasty! In fact, I'm taking the ceiling insulation out of the basement. It's around 80 down there especially with that huge header piping I have. I should wrap it to conserve but I haven't got around to it.
Coaledsweat, you don't get warm down there cause your 260 is at idle pretty much with that small load it has! That pot just idles then rises a bit for heat cycle. Plus, you set the thermostat to 60! I like mine at 70!

That is sound logic there, but as for the pocket book goes that $30.00 Amazon Digital Controller doesn't hurt near as bad on any day, but the money saved can buy a bunch of fittings for on a installation day.coaledsweat wrote:Best to just buy an anthrastat from Axeman, a beginner doesn't need a science project to add to their adventure.ziggy87 wrote:Thank you that is good to know.
Also forgot to add, possibly looking to use a digital temp controller for ashing since there was no anthrastat with the unit. Anyone with any experience on this?
All them AHS Coal Guns w/ digitals can't be wrong.

It's a war here, I turn it up, she turns it down!

bingo. Whistlenut brought me to see a 260 heating a 10 unit apartment building. The boiler room was HOT. I think the radiant heat from the boiler would have heated a small house.Townsend wrote:My Axeman is similar to Mozz, heats my basement very toasty! insulating that steam piping would really help...should also reduce the pickup load on repeat heat calls.

Finally have a chance to work on getting my boiler in. I will be putting up a 6" schedule 40 steel pipe chimney on the side of the building about 15' tall. Hope the house does not interfere with draft. I have 84' of 1-1/4 blk pipe and fittings being delivered Monday. So hopefully in 2 weeks I will be up and running.

That seems like a bad idea to me, but I will be interested to hear how well that drafts once you get the boiler running.I will be putting up a 6" schedule 40 steel pipe chimney on the side of the building about 15' tall.

Why would it be a bad idea?

Yes I thought about that, but that's what is in the budget right now. I will see how it does and go from there.CapeCoaler wrote: ↑Sat. Oct. 28, 2017 11:03 amoutside steel pipe will be cold...

On the type K thermocouple do you just have attached to the anthrastat. Going to be ordering a digital temp controller when I get home tonight.McGiever wrote: ↑Wed. Oct. 26, 2016 10:51 pmHere's some reading at Link >>> How Should an AA130's Fire Look at Full Burn?

Anthrastat is not used.
Digital controller takes Anthrastat's place.
K thermocouple probe can mount same location as where Anthrastat's probe was at.
