Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Keystoker 105

Post by gravely800 » Wed. Nov. 02, 2016 8:08 pm

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine is looking into making the switch from wood to coal. He likes my Hitzer 50-93 but because of his hearth and chimney set up, thinks he can only fit a top vented stove in that space. He has looked at the TLC-2000 recently. He's heating a 1800 sq ft farm house in south central PA. Does he have any other options for a hand fired coal stove that vents at the top vs the back?

Thanks for your help!

Gravely

An option that some use is to bore a hole for a pipe thimble through the wall above the fireplace mantel and into the chimney. Then run the stove pipe up to an elbow and into the chimney through that hole.

Then just close off the fireplace flue with fiberglass insulation up into the fireplace damper.

I have a 50-93 in my house and a Harman TLC 2000 stove in my garage. Hands down Hitzer is the better stove in my opinion. Doesn't really burn wood very well but why bother with wood when you can run so low on coal with the 50-93.

I've been reading about the TLC-2000 and the DS Anthramax. So far they seem to be the two contenders. I don't know much about either so would love to hear from those with experience.

The Anthramax is relatively new. There may not be many (if any) members of this forum using one.

Well, due to his layout and circumstances, he ended up purchasing the TLC2000. We got it in position, now he's waiting on a baro and pipe. Can't wait to fire it up and see how it works out. Looks like a much smaller stove than my 50-93. Thanks for the input on different stove options.
