Yes, if you're at 98% feed rate it should be flaring/burning really good with only about 1" or less of ash at the front. its should be cranking if calling for heat and at that feed rate. once the thermostat is satisfied, it should start backing down.I have the min set at 10 and max at 85. It has been running at 98% feed rate for about 2 hrs now, my fire is about 2.5 to 3" back from the edge of the grate, shouldn't it be a little closer?
what is the Setpoint you have it at and what is room temp?
Is there an adjustment screw on the pusher block in the back (nut on the end of the rod)? probably screw it all the way in (Clockwise) for max. feed.
Here's the manuals if you need them online

I have room temp set at 72 during the day, it was coming up from 70 that I had set overnight.WNY wrote:Yes, if you're at 98% feed rate it should be flaring/burning really good with only about 1" or less of ash at the front. its should be cranking if calling for heat and at that feed rate. once the thermostat is satisfied, it should start backing down.I have the min set at 10 and max at 85. Not sure about the screw, I know there is a nut on the end of the rod, is that the adjustment? I don't think that is all the way in.
Thanks for the manual, I actually have them all, the guy I bought it off of kept everything.

Yes, the nut/screw on the back of the stoker block is the feed adjustment, it should be turned all the way in and snug, clockwise I believe, since you have the coaltrol that will maintain the idle and burn with the min/max setting. it should have more burn on the grate if at 98%feed rate. should only have about 1" of ash.
once you get it adjusted, you can tweek the max (a couple points at a time) to gain a little more burn on the grate if needed. always make small adjustments and let it catch up and stabilize, give it a couple hours or more to adjust.
Sounds like you getting close and it seems to be working, just some fine tuning needed.

It was about 10 turns or so out, I turned it clock wise the whole way in now, we will see how it goes now. I haven't really had much call for heat since it's been so mild.
By morning it should be running at a higher percent so I'll check it then.

For any of you using the coaltrol thermostat, do you let the convection blower run all the time, or keep it set on auto. I feel that even at a idle fire, it wouldn't hurt to have that air circulating.

Great.!! that feed rate screw definitely will affect the max feed rate.
I leave mine on auto, sometimes I'll put it up to 30 or 40 scfm if its been idling for a while, just to wash the heat off the stove. My Leisure LIne with the Coaltrol also has a heat jacket I made with a separate temp. Switch for the jacket, it kicks on/off when needed.
The Blower will vary speed with feed rate. once the feed rate hits a certain setpoint, the blower will kick on low (or the setpoint in the Coaltrol MIN SCM or something, I can't remember,) There is a min setting for the blower in the advanced setup.

That most definitely made a difference. It's at 68% feed rate now, and I have a good fire going, about 1. 5" back from the edge of the grate. Doesn't appear to be any unburnt coal in the bucket.

It has been pretty equal. The basement is staying around 73-74, upstairs is all around the same temp of 72-74. I shut some of the vents in the rooms that were getting warmer and it has helped equal it out. It has been mild here, only getting into the 30s at night, so we will see how it does when it gets really cold...if it ever does.

I added added a small brass plate over the heat exit slot on the front to divert more air to the duct ring off the top. It is held in place with 2 1 1/2" round magnets from Home Depot. It is solid brass that I polished up is 14 gauge, with brass screws in the predrilled holes in the magnets.

I heat both the basement family room and the ranch house above. I like the ability to divert more air upstairs with the removeable plate utilizing the duct ring and another blower pushing air upstairs. When we have a power outage I can remove this plate and heat the basement warmer to makeup the loss of moving air upstairs.
