On Sunday into Monday they are predicting snow for us her in Upstate NY. Here near the lake they are calling for only 2-5" because the lake will keep us warmer. But they are calling for 12-15" in higher elevations. Finally can take the stove out of idle!

Coming here as well though no snow. Predicting highs of 40's and lows in the low 30's. To be honest not looking forward to it. Unlike most I consider burning coal a needed task to save money though nothing I do for the joy of it. Will light off tomorrow after noon so if anything overlooked I can deal with before late Saturday night.

I've been watching the weather all week Randy hoping they were right about the cooler temps and I think they are , I too have been waiting to step up the #8 since I lit it a week ago!! I need time in the driver seat to get good like I was with the Hitzer

It won't take long, a week or two and you will have a good grasp of it. These stoves are easy to use. What was the hardest for me to get use to was learning how much to shake the grates. With my Kineo having the round shake grates, the ash removal took a lot more work.Keepaeyeonit wrote:I've been watching the weather all week Randy hoping they were right about the cooler temps and I think they are , I too have been waiting to step up the #8 since I lit it a week ago!! Funny you say that, I almost dumped the fire on Monday Shook to much plus I had a rock in the ash so by the time I realized it the pan was full of hot coals but I was able to save it after a hour and a half of babying it, good lesson learnedPhotog200 wrote:

I did that a couple of times too, especially when the stove is just idling. With lower heat the coal bed does not bridge as mutch. Franco gave me a great tip when the bed has bridged, I can turn the grates a full turn and break up the chunks. Then knock down the bridged coal. After that just a few shakes of the grates clears up the loose ash.Keepaeyeonit wrote:Funny you say that, I almost dumped the fire on Monday Shook to much plus I had a rock in the ash so by the time I realized it the pan was full of hot coals but I was able to save it after a hour and a half of babying it, good lesson learnedPhotog200 wrote:

The National Weather Service just issued a winter snow watch for the areas South and East of me. Says can get 7-15" with strong winds.

Last night after a good cleaning of creosote and wood ash from the stove and chimney followed buy 50lbs of nut anthracite, I officially went from fall mode to winter mode in the old G6. Happy to have a nice warm house again............

The NWS change the lake effect snow watch to warning. We will see if it pans out, if anything like what hit the midwest, a big mess is on the way.
