Sell the wood stove and the fire wood. Buy Chubby and coal. You won't regret it.

Shutting down the MPD will RAISE the temp for a while before it starts to drop, The fan can drop it 200 degrees in 5 min easily, while closing the draft and leaving the MPD open to let heat escape .lobsterman wrote:I would choose no blower if it meant having a single right angle instead of 2. I would not rely on a blower to cool the fire. Shutting down the primary air and the MPD will do that. Thanks to Dave for suggesting the ash vac. I just went out and bought one and don't know how I lived without it before!
I do prefer a better draft ( less 90 bends) over a fan,. but I have a top vent and fan , so Im happy.
Its interesting how location and perception of function affects opinions. After a bit we all figure what works for us...

Good morning everyone, what kind of ash vacuum do y'all recommend. I've never had one or used one before so I'm just wondering!

Cheap 5 gallon minimum Shop Vac will work fine. You must use special fine dust bags in it though which are expensive.Wood slave wrote:Good morning everyone, what kind of ash vacuum do y'all recommend. I've never had one or used one before so I'm just wondering!
Handy for vacuuming car and blowing off lawn mower, as well as sucking up any water spills with bag removed.

I just bought the Rigid from Home Depot for $80. Very powerful. It does a far superior job on ash than any of my other vacs. It's all in the filter, I guess. Going to see lots of duty for vacuuming the hard to get at places.

The filters last a long time and you can clean them. When did you buy your vac? Mine is model DV05000, 5 gal.
