I register mine through Ace Registration Service. I have 12 year (IIRC) tags on all my trailers. No inspections (they are all safe for the road, of course), no property taxes, and the registration fee, over time, works out to be a little cheaper.

A month or two ago the dot had a "Blitz" in our area. the red flag was the maine plate. New york residents must register their vehicles in NY. Maine plates are not legal. Also the lawn mowing/landscaping and contractors all needed to get DOT numbers. If the truck trailer combo over 10,000 lbs. Only personal use only or recreational vehicles are exempt.Bobo K
