If there was that much ash on the boiler surfaces, I would expect an increase in efficiency after the cleaning.

I just ordered a new CO detector, as my old one did not even reacted to the odor. I think it needed to be replaced.

That's a good idea. Did you get one with a digital readout so you can see any rise in CO levels?

Thanks for that and the diagram. Mine is about due as it has been running at least 7 years. Seems odd the flyash would stick to the back wall.......I cant say I have ever removed much from the area in there. Maybe a build up of an inch once. I will alert my son about it. He can stick his phone in there and take a pic.
