Mike they are just very low walls on either side, cast as part of the ash drawer floor, to guide and keep the ash pan centered under the grates. They only stick up about a half inch. The #6 has the same thing.

Mike, I may be corrected, but I think that's how big the bay is for the ash pan. I'm guessing, because it's a baseburner, the heat is under the ash pan area, and not double walled like my 111(?)

Hey Paul, TOTP. (OK. I'll shut up.)

Wow! I could use you on the next aircraft inspection at my jobSunny Boy wrote:Too nice a stove to just leave it laying around, so I took the liberty of standing it up for ya.
Sure is a beauty !
So when are you getting one ?
And BTW, why are the grates turned on an angle while it's running ?
Paul
Tell me Paul, do the triangle male "drive" ends of the grates correspond to the points on the grate bars?
And thanks for getting the stove up off the floor

I think I know where one of these might be buried in a basement.....I am going to check on my next trip to Maine......I would probably have to run wood in it down here but I love how they look...

Scott, yes. The triangular stub ends of the two center grate bars correspond to the grate teeth in all four bars (if the cogs are in proper mesh). That's so that you know when the flat sides of the grate bar teeth are facing up to form a platform for the firebed.scalabro wrote:Wow!
