Good afternoon. It has been a busy weekend. I had hoped to get to the xmas lights, but no dice...spent all afternoon replacing the outlets and switches in my living room - which just had a fresh coat of paint. I also removed the covers from all 40 feet of baseboard and thoroughly vacuumed everything. Think that will give me more btu's?? The fins were not awful, but there was definitely some dust/cobwebs/leggos :) in there.

This is the finished product, I'd like to think it is the best the old house has looked in a long time.

Those are the real deal, connected with big lags. They hold up the roof of the addition, and are supported by an I-beam in the original outside wall out of the house.

Lego's show up in the darndest places....when my kid was little and played with them I had a Lab that crapped one out.

Your house looks beautiful, It's great things worked out so you didn't end up moving!

At least I haven't had THAT happen yet.

The other change I made when we put the furniture back in this room was moving my wireless router. I recently got a big-bad Linksys WRT1900 router, and was surprised that the coverage area did not seem much larger than my previous router. Well, the chimney in the kitchen or something must have had quite an impact on the wireless signal, because I moved the router to our living room (can see it sitting behind the tv), and now I have great WIFI in my shop 100' away.

Keepaneyeonit,

I am in the same shoes as you right now. My mother in law may pass today. We live next door in our twin farm house sharing the same basement, and many of the mechanicals of the house. My father in law passed 6 years ago due to a brain tumor. We heard the commotion next door when the tumor became so large that it what I call "short circuited his brain." 2 years ago the mother in law was diagnosed with stomach cancer. They removed it and for a year, she was fine. Then it came back. She elected to have no treatment done as she is 85. She didn't want to go through the effects of Chemo.

She has stated all along that she wants to die on the farm. As others have stated, get your loved one in contact with hospice. We did several months ago and they have been excellent to deal with. They even set up a bed in her living room if needed. But my strong willed (some call it bullheadedness :P ) mother in law still manages to get upstairs to her bed every night. We have her over every Saturday night for steaks and on Sundays my kids and grandkids come to the house for the dinner meal with her. The weekend before Thanksgiving, she stopped eating saying she could no longer get the food down. That cancelled the entire Thanksgiving meal for the entire extended family as we use her and our house to host it.

All of the siblings and every single grandchild and great grandchild of hers have stopped to see her one last time.

We have meds available should she need them. This morning she told me and the wife that she did not have a very good night last night so I think it will end shortly. :cry2:

She has lived a good life and she has been preparing for the end. She is comfortable with herself and knows it will not be much longer. It is us who are having the tough time.

Rob, the living room looks real nice. I love exposed beam ceilings.

Rick

Rick,a challenging time for you for sure, good to see how it is being handled with fulfilling her wishes. It is so good to see your MIL getting so much support from the family.
Sometimes we get complacent & think they will be with us forever & fail to visit them as we should.
With the passing of each of our "parents",we come to realize that time truly does keep marching on.
It also makes one realize that now we are the older generation. :o
You will never regret the time spent with her.
I will be thinking about you & praying for you as you travel this stretch of life's road. :)

Thanks for the invite to the coffee house Fred. This is my 1st visit, and the place sure looks comfy.
1st off, sorry for you and your families misfortune, K, and Rick. This is suppose to be a festive time of year, and it really is saddened by tragic times. All we can do, is what we can, move on, but never forget them. Try and make everyone as comfortable as possible.
On a lighter note, Rob, your house, (and Freddies too) look gorgeous. But Rob, you haven't showed us your coal monster. Is she operating or what? I don't think I've ever seen your set-up.
We got a light dusting of the white stuff this morning, and the state goes into a "frantic" lock-down. (Almost) Delayed a bunch of school openings. Don't know what will happen if we get some real accumulation. The National guard will probably makes us move to Fla.

Now, because I'm on a weeks vacation, I have to start chiseling away at the "ta-do" list. Try and enjoy your day, all. Joe
