Help Needed: EFM 520 rebuilding, refurbished, or new

PostBy: mmeck On: Mon May 12, 2008 8:04 pm

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know of anyone who refurbishes/rebuilds EFM stokers in the Tamaqua/Eastern Pa area. I currently have a 520 that is in poor shape. I am looking for a rebuilt one and also looking to get rid of mine. My stoker needs new worm feed and all new outside body. It is badly rusted due to a leaky basement. When it was installed it was installed right on the floor of the basement (water runs right against it). In my estimation this unit is pretty old (20-25) and I am not sure if it is worth fixing/refurbing or just looking for something new. Any info you could provide on individuals with rebuilding experience would be helpful. What is the going price for a new 520 and install?

Thanks,
mmeck

Your stoker probably doesn't really need a rebuild. A new worm can be installed yourself fairly easily and the same goes with the sheatmetal. Chances are you might need a new boiler base though if it's right on the floor. If you go back through some posts here on the efm page you'll see #'s for distributors. The hardest thing to replace would be the boiler base if it needs it the rest is fairly simple.

The base is completely gone. The burner grate also has damage. There is a one inch by one inch peice chipped off.

It barely made it thru last year. I bought the house figuring I would convert to oil, but with oil prices it does not seem like a good option. Besides it did a great job heating a 2400sq ft house with no insulation.
