A friend of mine has excess warehouse space and is thinking of bringing in pallets of coal. The warehouse is located in Derby.
Would anyone here be interested or willing to drive to Derby for pick up? I'm looking to gauge the level of interest or lack of it due to supply and demand.
If interested, please post the type of coal you use and an approximate quantity per season. Thanks!

Derby a little bit far for me ... I can only haul 1/2 ton at a time with the equipment I currently have....and I would not want to haul my homemade trailer 100 mi for a 1/2 ton haul (for 2 tons thats 4 trips .... about 6 hrs of my time)
Figure it would cost me $150 to rent a truck to move 2 tons.
What would the price of 2 tons of nut be then?
Everything comes down to $$$ of course.

It looks like few if any are interested. Maybe during the next "coal rush" when oil prices climb.

Derby isn't bad for me, about 30-40 minutes. Can we assume there would be a lift truck available to load as it is a warehouse?
I burn pea and usually about 6 tons a year. I have an F350 and a trailer so could do it all in one shot.

If you get Lehigh, I would be in for four (4) pallets (just short of 5 tons - assuming 1.2+ ton pallets) and can pick it up.

With so many Tractor Supply stores opening here in Connecticut, an independent store carrying coal wouldn't make any sense.

That may depend on the price and type carried. If you peruse 'all' the different threads and 'all' the seperate posts about TSC coal, you may just find that people are beginning to look for a way out of the trap they fell into.EarthWindandFire wrote:With so many Tractor Supply stores opening here in Connecticut, an independent store carrying coal wouldn't make any sense.

Agreed. If TSC would carry one brand, and monitor the quality, and the price was competitive, they could lock in a loyal following, which would be a good business model for them because you can't go to TSC and not buy something you didn't know you had to have.SWPaDon wrote:That may depend on the price and type carried. By itself? No it wouldn't even around here. I have a buddy that sells coal on a pallet..... but he's on main road that a l lot coal customers pass by. He also sells bulk coal, , wood pellets, delivers wood coal/pelltes, refills propane, does custom fireplace/mantle work, sells coal and wood stoves etc.EarthWindandFire wrote:With so many Tractor Supply stores opening here in Connecticut, an independent store carrying coal wouldn't make any sense.
If you were offering delivery you might get somewhere but remember if the customer calls you in the middle winter for delivery and you don't have any coal they are going to call someone else and keep calling them.
