Most PD's are short-handed as it is. Now, it's supposed to be better to tie up an officer somewhere with remote control equipment to oversee an expensive gizmo that can't respond to emergency calls. So, then the officer has to dump the bike somewhere and get in a real vehicle to go help, when he could have been out on patrol already ? Yeah, right.

Nothing says crime deterrence like a gizmo that can be put out of action with a gentle shove. :D

What? My town has double of what it actually needs ... 1/2 actually do things that they should be doing and the other 1/2 is just out there to collect taxes from us suckers.

The town I lived in on LI had it's own 27 man police force. That worked out to about 750 residents per officer. Here's it's about 1500 residents with only one part-time officer. On LI they mostly hate guns. Here there's about as many guns as there are people. :)

From the article.

"While patrolling, the motorcycle would seamlessly scan license plates and record offenders using real-time video. If a violation is recorded, the drone could automatically issue citations via e-mail, text message or even traditional post."

Wouldn't a stationary camera do the same thing, but without the risk and expense of a vehicle?
