Don't you just love the sight and sound of the steam engine. In PA, the Reading railroad stopped using steam engines in 1952. My grandfather started out as a fireman in the '20s and was an engineer until 1969. The Reading would discipline engineers who created heavy black smoke because it meant that they were overfiring the boiler.

My father worked at all the stations from Allentown to Philly and my grandfather would stop at a station and pick up us kids and we would ride in the engine all day with him.
