Just picked up another stove, W.H.Landers Prize Welcome.#18 1904 year. It does have the Kernan grate system,a hollow grate system used to heat up un burned gasses as it passes it back up to the flu. So far I have only seen one this one, if any one has seen another please let me know trying to look for a fire pot for this one it is broken and needs to be replaced last try would be having it re cast. Have not torn it down as of yet to restore, planning on it would be a very nice stove when done and nickled. I am pretty sure it was cast at the Syracuse Stove works Syracuse N.Y.

Chris,

More information and perhaps some pictures on that grate system would be welcome.

Here is a link to the patent with illustrations you can click on.

It appears to be a more hollow grate giving any air more time to be heated before passing through to the coal bed

Your stove seems to have had one grate replaced with a more conventional style..
