I have a add on Fire Chief furnace just looking for opinions on blower use I had a controller built to control the blower on the main furnace the coal furnace has a blower but does not have enough cfm to push heat through the house on its own so the big blower will cycle off and on which makes it heat nicely. In the past I would allow the big blower to run continuously is it better and cheaper to run the big blower all the time? This is a 2 part question part 1 would be energy usage it know amps go up when the motor starts up is it cheaper to allow it to cycle or leave it on continuously and part 2 would be wear and tear on main blower will it last longer on continuous or letting it cycle?
I hope you can make sense of this.

Cannot have both, each/every start is higher amps surge plus strain both electrical and mechanical on physical motor.
It comes down to pay now (electricity )or pay later (motor). ...better built motors can save more cost over time. ;)

At least w/ a blower the motor has ample air cooling. :)

The thermostat I use for our gas hot air furnace is a "LUX CAG1500a" which has a "Clean" setting which runs the blower motor for a short period of time it is somewhat programable. I have the clean cycle set to run 3 minutes every 20 minutes which helps even out the temps through out our house. So how much does it cost us to run the blower motor? I never did the math but haven't notice much of a difference in our electric bill. The gas furnace blower motor is not very big so I don't think is draws much on startup.

Also the hand fed is located in the basement near the gas furnace so I also cut a small hole in the intake side of the gas furnace plenum which pulls some of the hot air from the coal stove.
