By baking coal rather than burning it


From the article he said it was 40% gas, and you'd get 130 gallons of fuel from a ton. The trouble is 1 ton of coal is equal to about 180+ gallons of fuel oil so I really don't see the point. You're wasting energy to create a specific product, instead they should invest in burning it cleanly and efficiently to produce electricity which in turn could be used to power electric cars. :idea:

Agreed, but if this could be done now.....it would be a better than paying $4 a gallon untill we can get something else going. Think what you could save if you could do this in your backyard.

Either something's fishy, or this guy deserves to be a billionair. In the video he said a ton of coal produces 130 gallons of methanol AND 1.34 megawatts of electricity. Retail price for that power is over $240!
