Trying to find the closest place to the NY/ PA border to get coal. So far I have found it looks like Hudson's is the closest. I cannot seem to find a phone number anywhere to call and get prices, hours etc. Does anyone have this info or at least have a number so I can call? By reading some of the post's on here, it appears that the quality is good. Would have to be worth he trip at $3.85- $3.95 per gal. now. Would probobly go in on a load with others in my area.

Thats in Pittston, right off the Pittston bypass. I thought there was a guy in Scranton also. Or you could go to Casey Kassa (sp)? Its close to.

Let me know I'm Slate Hill New York 10973. just off I-84. From Google. I'm a hour and 1/2 away from Hudson. Willing to split the cost. What is their current ton rate?

Just got off the phone with them at Hudson. Price is $130.00 per ton for nut size down. Open Mon.- Fri. until winter then she says they are open on Sat. also. Thanks for the info on address and phone #. Now have to do some math to see if it's worth the trip. Going rate in Elmira/Corning area is $195.00-$205.00 per ton bulk right now. Women on the phone at Hudson says she hasn't heard of any plans for an increase in price right now.

I believe that is a office or the map is wrong, It's in Inkerman too not Pittston. Phone number is right though. there's directions to Hudson from I-81 here at the bottom of the first post. : 2008 Steam Town Meet and Greet for Forum Members

Rabel's/Mid-Valley Fuel in Dickson City sells coal, but it's only fair. I used to buy from them. Most times it was OK, but I got some poor quality coal as well. Nothing to write home about, certainly not nearly as good as Superior or Harmony.

BTW Casey's is not far from Hudson but I wouldn't recommend them over Hudson, it's probably cheaper though. As far as the guy in Scranton I'm not familiar with the one Wood n' Coal posted but there is at least one dealer that sells in bulk in Scranton that purchases from Hudson that I know of. I don't even know if there is anyone in the Scranton area processing their own coal, in any event you will always get it cheapest at the breaker if they sell to the public.

Picked up 1400 LBS from Hudson this AM. The coal was washed and in large piles at the breaker. There was a couple of twigs here and there but nothing to worry about. Doesnt seem to have too much shale in it. Although the sizing of the Nut coal isnt as consistent as I would like. It seems to have some smaller pieces that will just fall through the grates

but Im sure this happens when using this size. Prices for nut size down is 130 a ton. Stove is 150 a ton. Hope this helps someone. Its right off exit 175 on 81.

Hudosn's coal is probably the most consistently sized you will find , the rice coal is ridiculously consistent (read absolutely no barley in it)however if you were loaded off the pile you're going to have some fine stuff in it especially with the nut. Ask to get loaded from the hopper next time, it goes across a screen with spray bar, the holes are almost as big as pea coal and anything small gets washed away.
