Just wanted to leave some good words about the support I've received from Hitzer. I like there product and they stand behind it. Good people to work with and very reasonable! Didn't know where else to spread the good news so here it is .

Ditto on all that R & it's consistent, not just when they feel like it or sell out.

What kind of "support"?rich554 wrote:Just wanted to leave some good words about the support I've received from Hitzer. I like there product and they stand behind it. Good people to work with and very reasonable! Didn't know where else to spread the good news so here it is .
I have a 503 .....
Only issue I have had is with corrosion ... see how it goes this season using dry dry coal. (aside from my big muscles breaking grates)

Hmmmm, might be the operator, not the stove. What have you done with the hopper this year as far as maintenance goes DM?

Had an issue with paint on the ash pan door on a NOS stove I purchased they said they'll make good no fuss no muss.

As you can recall, I added 1/16th inch stainless to the hopper a couple of seasons ago and it mattered not ...freetown fred wrote:Hmmmm, might be the operator, not the stove. What have you done with the hopper this year as far as maintenance goes DM?
Any suggestions?

None. How are you tending now--what's left of the hopper/ Just curious. 1/16' stainless I don't think would work with the heat involved so that's no surprise. My hopper & boot are at least 1/4" steel. I'm not real familiar with the 503 hopper but thinkin it shouldn't be much different?

The hopper itself is 1/4" plate ... with added 1" strips attached to the bottom of the hopper edges. I added an additional 1/16" inch SS to this 1/4" plate...and , as you said, it did little or nothing.freetown fred wrote:None. I think its just the dynamics of the stove design, how heat flows about that causes the rear area of the hopper to be eaten up. Wet coal likely makes it worse...I'll know more in a few months using coal I kept inside for about 18 months and is dryer than normal coal.
Fun fun fun...

I have a 503
Love it. Owned it for 7 years. After 3 years I had to replace the hopper due to corrosion eating it away. Since then I wire brush and repaint the hopper at the end of each season. The hopper is still wearing along the bottom edge but at a much slower rate.
