if you are just running it around 300 degrees, thats almost an idle and you are able to keep the fire, not losing it. I'd leave it just how it is now. Quit screwing with it for a month and see how it does. What little you'd save in heat costs adding a baro, if any, just isnt worth it. If it gets too hot in your house open a window. I do that and I live in MN Theres a member here who has a window open all winter long. It sure beats being cold!
Glad you are having decent luck with your stove.

Just worry about keeping the house warm as cheaply as you can/want to.

Work with it, you'll get it down to a science in no time. As I said, I've only been running half a firebox of coal in mine since about noontime. Both front and back are ashed up, on purpose. I only have a fire in the center and that covers about half the bed. Plus, my coals are only about 3/4 of the way up my firebrick.
When it burns down some, I move some of the coals to the front and back, where they go out, and put another shovel right dead center and start the process over again.

What size shovel you us a normal large one or a coal hod shovel?
Ashley is still burning this mornings load I stured and increased air. It's finally cooling in here and outside. Today I have proved I can get a long burn. I think I need to burn all the small size coal I have though. Burning smaller lumps requires more tending but I probably have at least a ton of smallish lumps.
