Hey Lee bout 10 minutes ago I opened the load door to stir. Well got it closed draft shot to .35 I thought a plane was flying over from the rumble. Have not burnt any wood to have creosote fire. Perhaps gasses ignited in my flue??

That was likely secondary air burning the gasses. I get that all the time with top vents open. That is why you dont want wood creosote in your chimney as they could ignite. Ive had those gasses/flames going several feet up my chimney before which is not good. Its if I put too much wood or soft coal (which I am finally out of) in the stove at one time.

As lightning said, that smell is just dust burning from on top of your stove. I have to run my stove much hotter than you so I get it often. No big problem there.

It didn't last long guess I cleaned the bit soot out last night. I've finally been able to run ashley up to 600 range been very cold here.

Like to make an announcement about next year if I have a good summer I'm thinkin about buying a pallet of anthracite. I have confidence inot ashley I I think she can handle it.p

Double cool! Hope it will burn good and hope you can afford the price difference.

600 degrees, when I hit around that temp on the side of my stove, is about when I start smelling the dirt/hot smell from the top of my stove. I wont tell you how hot Ive run it before  Not my Chubby though, Im real gentle with her.

I've been thinking about anthracite for about a month now budget looking up now days. May have to block the front liner for anthracite no big deal. Don't get me wrong I love bit coal but I've tried anthracite before in a different stove and heat was rock solid steady.
