Since the general agreement is that the burning problem has something to do with air/air pattern or flow, I am wondering if the new motor you replaced in the fall is the identical R.P.M. as the one that came with the unit from the factory. How about the squirrel cage, all of the metal blades good and clean? Mike

It Kind of sounds like an air problem. However, I have to ask; Do you have an even amount of coal coming down the grate? Is the coal dragging at the sides? If so, sand the grates smooth. This also leads me back to the bottom of hopper opening. Are the ears at the bottom of the hopper bent down into the stoker? Is anything restricting, or blocking flow of coal into the stoker? Did you have the stoker out of stove? Or, the hopper off the stoker. Did any furnace cement get disturbed in the hopper / stoker area?

With everything he's tried I agree some kind of restriction

Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: Koker 160

Thanks for all the ideas!! It was an air problem. I cleaned the hopper to look for restrictions, but found that everything was fine with the pusher bar. I then cleaned the entire grate off and found a eighth inch by half inch hole in the cement that holds the back of the grate down. I never noticed, because it is always covered with coal. I applied new cement to the back of the entire grate and refired the furnace. It seems to be burning much better ( straight across instead of a V shape).

Good news, isn't it funny how a little extra air screws things up in a stoker?

Good job! guess it do't take all that much to disturber the proper air flow
