EFM DF520 Install

EFM DF520 Install

PostBy: myers007 On: Sat Jan 07, 2017 9:36 pm

My new to me DF520 install. I thought I would share some photo of the install. I first had to remove the old oil burner and rip out most of the plumping for the old oil boiler.

New home for the EFM all ready.

Thanks Mark

Yes it was my idea I needed a way to get the old boiler out of lower basement and I gave a machine shop what I wanted made and they made this for me.

I used to the oil boiler out and lower the EFM base and boiler down to the lower basement.

Need to figure how add text in between the pictures.

I would like to have it up in running in a couple of weeks but thing have not been going as planned.

I am placing the boiler on a 6 inch pad and that caused issue when I tried to lift on the base.
I did not have enough clearance I was hitting the hoist I just need a few more inches.

The installation looks very nice. I am glad the sistered joists and steel plate work was
up for the job.

Please forgive my asking this question as a Keystoker KAA-4-1 owner;
Did you use high temperature gasket sealer between the underfed
pot stokers base and the boiler shell?

High temp. Silicone works good on the base side panels. I have used regular silicone on the boiler to base seam with good results, but time will tell how it holds up.

My 520 was pushed up on the base with 4 guys...I like your method better.

Hi lzaharis,

Yes I used furnace cement between the boiler and the base and I also used high temp silicone on the side panels.

I just had a time getting the back hex bushing reducers out of the boiler I a wanting to plumb the bypass and the boiler had two different sizes.

I finally was able to get both of the back reducer plugs out and replace with new and the same size.

It is a good thing you found that mouse nest, it would have really done a job on your circulator(s).

Unless your EFM was painted with high temperature paint, it will burn off the fire door and probably the top of the base when you start running it. Plan on some extra ventilation for the first day or two. Also, I hope someone did not paint the inside of the boiler...if they did it will start peeling and collect flyash.

You have one of the old style bases, very rugged compared to the new ones.

FYI. You should ALWAYS flush your lines after installing them.

Debris, flux, solder, dirt, plastic mfg bits, etc are all the kinds of things you'll be surprised to find.

Though I think a mouse nest is a bigger surprise!
