Its probably thermo-siphoning.....springcheck valves on the pipework leading to the radiators set for the direction of normal flow should fix it...it doesn't take much to stop things ghost flowing.

Yes, I had to put check valves in my circulators. Office would get very warm. Made quite the difference.

Yes they do work and work very well. Is the top of your 520 insulated??
With unintended heat loss coming off the steam chest it may run more
often and heat up more than it should.
I solved that issue with my KAA-4-1 by insulating the steam chest as it
came with no insulation. I know I saved money on coal by doing that as well.

There's a Taco Flo-chec on the main pipe coming out the top. I'm assuming that may be the problem. The cabinet is intact with all the original insulation. I guess I can't complain with it being 59 years old. Thanks for the help and advice.

Read up on that Flo Chek, it has a screw knob to open it and defeat the lock...you may only need to screw it back closed again and be go to go.

Does it have a plug in the bottom port? Or is a pipe plumbed to it?Kpa57 wrote:There's a Taco Flo-chec on the main pipe coming out the top. I'm assuming that may be the problem. If the bottom port has a plug, the check may be full of mud holding it open. Pull the plug to flush, then install a nipple and cap so it has a drip leg where the mud can settle.

Gravity circulation , My father had a hydronic system no pumps, larger pipes house just circulated by thermo siphoning or gravity circulation , handy in case of power failure with a thermocouple operated gas valve .
