SORRY staining was not mentioned, yes I have some of that, not too bad though. I am running a stainless chimney cap, it may contribute to it, and was considering removing the cap.

I'm not so sure this is going to be a problem for my metal roof the more I think about it. We have ash cans that sat out in the rain and snow with full ash - both nut residual and rice cinders awaiting pickup and can bottoms are still in great shape. The think the greater danger to asphalt roofs is the black fungus attacking most newer roofs rather quickly.
