I have to admit that the video was staged, I don't take the ashes out, my kids do! :)

I just help them change out to a new coal skid with the pallet jack once a month, which takes 5 minutes.

David,

Nice job on the video.

That is an ingenious scoop!

Imagine how many times you could load your stove if your scoop held 2,250 lbs of coal.

We boiler guys do miss being able to watch the fire.

Whenever we return to my friends house from skiing, I like defrosting in front of his coal stove.

On the other hand, I have my clothes warming on a cast iron radiator each morning, so each system has it's pluses and minuses.

Changed the video to you tube to make it easier to access.

Make sure you have your volume turned up!

That is pretty much my routine as well, although I do not bother with a cover for the ash tub. I would if I had to carry the ashes out through the house.

With the low-ash coal that I got this year, the most I have had to change the ash tub is every 3 days.

Not my video ... was posted a while ago ... but the scoop looks nice ... how to fill it might require some effort.
