What Did I Do Wrong?

What did I do wrong?

PostBy: Dngtig On: Sat Feb 04, 2017 11:23 am

Last night I had my chubby rolling along stove temperature was at 690*, house was toasty warm mpd closed 90% or so. Slide damper was 1/2 to 3/4 open. Closed slide damper to 1/8 opening and went to bed @ 10:30pm. I had filled and shook stove around 8pm if I recall.
Woke this morning at 6:30am to find a couple of red coals and a firebox half full of partially burnt coal. Opened dampers but I lost it. Cleaned it out and ready to start over again.

Why did the coal not burn?

The 690 temperature generated a lot of ash. I suspect that the fire choked on it. A light shake at bed time may have preserved the fire .

I think Franco sums it up pretty well. Running that hot will created more ash and shorten burn time.

As always if you need any help or have any questions please feel free to contact either Larry or myself. We are happy to help! :D

You can clear too much ash as well. As with any stove there is a learning curve but you will get her"dialed in" in short order.

Have you seen our Chubby tending video?

If you have to run your stove that hard it suggests that it is undersized for the job. I would guess that the fire got ash bound.

Happens to all of us once in a while. Next time revive the fire with small bit of charcoal or wood.

690f is not to hot. Chubby's can take it. However I can’t imagine why someone would need to run their stove that hot unless it is in a basement or you are living someplace above the Artic Circle in a Yurt.
