I am a mason .A customer wants me to install stove in basement .Unfortunately where thimble will go through concrete wall he has some WiresFrom the water well right above the proposed thimble .Any ideas to handle this problem .I cannot move the wires .This area due to outside windows where the bri ck chimney will be built leaves me tight . jack

Could you extend the terra cotta thimble farther out ihto the room? That should take care of most of the heat and if you can use 1 or 2 pieces of metal as insulators spaced about 1 inch apart, that will also help shield the wires. Or just add mortar mix to the outside of the thimble extension as an insulator.

easier to move wires than moving the chimney and thimble. Splice the wires into a junction box and reroute around the thimble

Den, be very careful. I too was a mason contractor; & was asked to install a coal unit. However unless you are a certified chimney sweep, If something goes wrong you have a HUGE problem. Your ins company will walk away & you will be the bag holder. I declined, & think you should too. Just not worth the liability.

Tell the owner to get an electrician to come and reroute the wires and build that puppy~~~ :)

I agree with the other guys. Moving the wires is the best option. I had to do the same thing in my house.

Rerouting wire is probably less than 100 bucks and a half hour project. That keeps everyone's hands clean and zero issues.
