Could you extend the terra cotta thimble farther out ihto the room? That should take care of most of the heat and if you can use 1 or 2 pieces of metal as insulators spaced about 1 inch apart, that will also help shield the wires. Or just add mortar mix to the outside of the thimble extension as an insulator.

easier to move wires than moving the chimney and thimble. Splice the wires into a junction box and reroute around the thimble

Den, be very careful. I too was a mason contractor; & was asked to install a coal unit. However unless you are a certified chimney sweep, If something goes wrong you have a HUGE problem. Your ins company will walk away & you will be the bag holder. I declined, & think you should too. Just not worth the liability.

Tell the owner to get an electrician to come and reroute the wires and build that puppy~~~Dennis wrote:easier to move wires than moving the chimney and thimble. Splice the wires into a junction box and reroute around the thimble
