Go look at the fuel cost calculator and tell us what is cheaper than coal. Coal was regulated out by the left because of their investment in green, there is no other reason it faltered.

We need a mix of energy, the world can't be run on sun and wind. Nukes and NG have there own horrible pollution problems. The luny left deliberately tried to run coal out of business and that is by their own admission. Now let's help level the playing field again. Those families have enough problems to deal with. Let's start closing NPS as fast as possible and let us start with Indian Point down the road from me and reopen four coal plants upstate. Now the liberal children have been thrown out of the sand pit, a lot of sweeping up has to be done. Often other kids get sand thrown in their eyes and sometimes it's vicious and deliberate. See the analogy.

A business colleague in Cleveland is complaining she never sees the sun these days. I demand to see the output from those VT and ON solar fields. You know, in these days in winter when they need the most power. ahahahahahahaha ,,, etc.

I guess we'll see if removing regulations brings back coal. My money is on it not happening.

Yes, much damage has been done thx to idiots. We need to try as it is important to the mix. So much damage and so little time before the skills are lost.

http://en.openei.org/wiki/New_York

We are a couple of serious disasters from chit canning nukes and NG is temporary and fracking so terrible even left wing NY said no. So coal needs to be kept in the mix. While we are on the topic of liberal dogma, get that pkn ethanol out of my gas now it has been shown to be another really stoopid idea. Then there is global warming etc etc etc .

Coal is what wins wars. You can start with the Civil War and every one after it, coal is what did it. We have it and it is a win.

With many of the major coal companies either in or about to be in bankruptcy (complements of the socialists), the time to act is now. Warren Buffet will probably make a fortune on this play.

CS, I haven't seen too many coal fired ships being built, my SinL used to live real close to Elrama power station & it was rumored to close in the 80s, I'm almost positive it is now closed but could be mistaken, they were building a new plant not all that far from there around the same time that was NG powered. Another right up river, was owned by USS, Maple Creek if I am correct, had it's own mine that had some problems with accidents & such & was pretty much played out & remaining coal was too far, they ran tram cars for awhile but finally closed both. They were all Bit being in Western Pa., all things come to an end if it's really progress or not remains to be seen but most modern mining requires a handful of mostly equipment operators, truck drivers & mechanics, nothing like the old high employment days.

I prefer that you put your money on natural gas being the super star .

You said "the trend is to move away from coal" :(
Of course that has been the trend...what could anyone expect with the jackass ruining our country for the last 8 yrs ? You are actually thinking that in an anti-coal environment, the coal industry would grow ??

Coal WILL make a comeback ,it may not return to what it used to be,but coal will rise again. :)

Yes, i realize that if i knew what was good for me,i would push for natural gas hookup to every building in this country.... that way the folks who really understand what is best for me & really care about me & really understand my needs ,can also dictate what i will pay for my heating fuel, they will also control how much i use when the demand overloads their system.

Then there is the other factor with a natural gas leak..

Obama admin undoubtedly anti-coal but market forces from cheap NG pressured coal-fired power generation even without any regulatory actions. Regulatory stuff had some direct impacts, but big items, like the Clean Power Plan, didn't go into effect. I think the most significant impact of regulatory stuff so far has been to create uncertainty that has chilled the willingness of producers to stay with coal-fired generation in the future. Getting rid of Obama's EPA helps, but maybe not much if it gets replaced by the recent Republican proposal to slap a big tax on coal burning/carbon emissions.

A lot of NYS does not have access to NG and Coal is still much cheaper than pro-pain. Around here the only heating fuel cheaper is wood because there are so many cutting and selling it.

And coal use has been growing around here.

In the past five years I've seen a doubling of coal suppliers within 20 miles of me here in CNY. Three of those new suppliers have popped up within ten miles just in the past three years. Hopefully these government restrictions rollbacks will help increase coal demand while helping to keep cost down as it also helps add to the local economy. ;)

Paul, My situation is the same regarding NG, Pro Pain and electricity. Priced out of sight. The crazy part for me is there are 2 large high pressure NG lines running through my property. One is new only 3 years old. Not available to me :|

coal will be popular again for heating when oil goes above 100 a barrel and they get a extraction tax on NG, seems this discussion starts every time oil is cheap
