This IS a typical, though sad, example of what
some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):
'How can you run for Senate when you've never
held a real job?'

Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):
'I served 23 years in the United States Marine
Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions.
My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12
different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook,
Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where
I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank.'

'I ask you to go with me .. . as I went the
other day... to a veteran's hospital and look those men ..
with their mangled bodies . in the eye, and tell
THEM they didn't hold a job!








You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and
go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans
of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...and
you look those kids in the eye and tell them
that their DAD'S didn't hold a job.







You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in
Arlington National Cemetery , where I have more friends buried than I'd
like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. You stand there,
and you think about this nation, and you have the gall to tell ME that
those people didn't have a job?

What about Metzenbaum?'

For those who don't remember During W.W.II,
Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in
the USA .

Now he's a Senator!

Metzenbaum, whose strategy throughout the campaign included questioning Glenn's civilian leadership experience, apparently remarked during a speech that the career Marine and former astronaut had "never met a payroll," or words to that effect. Somehow this morphed into "never held a job" in the press coverage of the campaign (and continues to be reported that way to this day), and Glenn took the straw man and ran with it in a May 3, 1974 debate with Metzenbaum at the Cleveland City Club.

"Never met a payroll" is not anywhere near as inflammatory as "never held a job" .

Speaking of Astronauts here's my favorite astronaut clip, Buzz Aldrin confronted by man that claims he never walked on moon:

Great youtube cut....Good for Buzz Aldrin!! John Glenn is truly a U.S. hero with "The Right Stuff!" I remember watching his Mercury flight as the first American to orbit the earth!

No problem there Ken, any tome I ever get anything like that in an email or anything that seems suspicous I look it up. Usually its hoaxed or in this case altered. Don't feel so bad I've pointed out worse... I was on another International forum and poster put up a bunch of images for Abu Ghraib but they were intermingled with some really disgusting images of GI's raping women and few others that were pretty horrific.

Knowing I've never seen them a quick search turned up the the rape depictions were actual porn from a porn site that the Boston Globe published without checking their authenticity. I believe they surfaced right around the time the Abu Ghraib ones did My father was in the military for 30 plus years and so I know how they wear a uniform and the "shoes" without the tucked in pants were a big tip off for me right off the bat. The others were published in English newspaper which were also hoaxed, ironically the guy was posting that the U.S media never publishes such photos and that people should research themselves to find out the truth.

So the moral of the story is... check your sources before posting them. If it looks to be really outrageous it's probaly hoaxed. BTW... for you others that always forwarding e-mail.... Penny Brown has been found. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/missing/penny.asp
